In 1985, Dell introduced to the world its own designed computer. It is called “Turbo PC” that was sold for 795 US dollars. The computer runs at a speed of 8 MHz. It contained a processor that is intel 8088-compatible. The systems were advertized by PCs Limited to national computer magazines. It said there that the units can be sold directly to consumers and that each ordered unit can be custom assembled. This offer gave consumers the option to purchase one unit at a lower price. This process had also entailed greater convenience to consumers. With this, the company was able to earn more than 73 million dollars in just a year.
In 2000, the company started offering notebooks with Linux systems. Though it is more expensive than their counterparts such as the Windows 98, Dell managed to expand. With this, The company is the very first major manufacturer that offered Linux across its line of products. But then, the company disbanded with Linux in 2001. Last February 26, 2007, however, The company announced that they will be selling Linux pre-installed computers. But it was retracted by December that same year.
